There is nothing quite as gorgeous or delicious than home-made, golden-baked, cheese-and-tomato lasagna heaven. Yes, I needed that many adjectives to describe the particular beauty of today's lunch. I think it's all about the time you put into making this delectable treat, the chopping and stirring and bubbling of sauces. Spending two hours in the kitchen seems more than adequate if you are being rewarded with this divine dish. Since the weather has been grey and rainy all through the past week, I decided a real treat was in order for my family. My grandmother said it could have fed an entire football team. As it happened, it was barely enough for four people!
There is a reason this kind of dish is called soul food. It makes you feel warm inside on a blustery day such as today, with rain pattering on the windows. Filled to the brim with this lasagna heaven, I now sit and reflect on the day. The first thing that made me so happy was making the lasagna, the slow process of it and the wait before getting it out of the oven. The air of excitement in the house as everyone was slowly driven mad with longing by the cheesy smell. And the joy of seeing it disappear in about ten minutes, with exclamations of delight.
It is such a wonderful feeling to give something back to my loving, wonderful family. Even if it's just a little slice of lasagna.
Love, x
